This is my common lunch box recipe because when I get late to work this is my time-saver ;) its quick, easy and can be made in just one pot. This recipe can be made in pressure cooker also, but i prefer making it in a pot.
First wash rice and soak in water for 15 mins. Defrost peas if your using frozen ones. In a pan add oil, sliced onions and saute till a little translucent. Then add crushed green chilli and ginger. Increase or decrease the amount of chillies and ginger depending on how spicy you like it. We would also be using black pepper which adds to the spicy level.
Then add cumin seeds and whole spices like Cloves, Cinnamon, bay leaf and whole black pepper. Fry till spices leave aroma. Then add green peas
Add washed, soaked rice and salt to taste. Mix all well and saute for a minute. Add warm water, since this will help the rice to cook faster. Then cover and cook for 15 to 20 minutes. You can season the rice with fresh coriander leaves and lime juice. Serve with raita or papad
Matar Pulao | Peas Pulao Recipe | One-pot Rice pilaf recipe
Basmati Rice - 1 cup
Peas - 1 cup
Onion - 1 medium
green chilly + ginger - crushed - 1tbsp
Cumin seeds/Jeera - 1 tsp
Cloves - 4 or 5
Black pepper - 10-12
Oil - 1 tbsp
Warm water 2 cups
Salt to taste
Wash rice and soak in water for 15 mins
Defrost peas if using frozen ones
In a pan add Oil, once hot add onions and saute till translucent
Then add crushed green chilly + ginger and cumin seeds
Add all whole spices like Cloves, cinnamon, bay leaf and black pepper, saute
Then add peas, soaked rice and salt.
Check seasoning, saute for a minute
Add warm water, cover the pan
Cook for 15- 20 mins or till rice is done
Serve hot with raita
**Season with lime juice and coriander leaves
